Why settle for an alarm clock when you can get one with a built-in CD player? Am I right!? Most CD alarm clocks also come with a range of additional features such as charging ports, FM & AM radio, and time displays.

To make sure you're spending your money wisely, I've put together this article that reviews my five top CD alarm clocks. I'll discuss the design, quality, and features of each product, helping you make the right purchase.

But before we go ahead, my top pick is the Crosley CR612B-WH. It has a retro vibe, multiple alarms, and great sound quality. What more could you want!?

Why I'm Qualified

If you're new to this blog, my name is Burak. There was a period in my life where I struggled to wake up thanks to terrible alarm clocks. Having been late for many important events, I decided it was in my best interest to study alarm clocks and differentiate the best from the worst.

And that's exactly what I did!

Now I'm sharing my knowledge with lucky readers through this blog. Not only that, but I also designed an online alarm clock.

Crosley CR612B-WH

Best Feature: Wake Up to Your Favorite CDs

If you want something that's got an old school vibe, this is the alarm clock/CD player for you. Just because it's retro doesn't mean it doesn't perform like a charm. In fact, It's one of my favorite CD player alarm clocks.

When inserting a CD, the hood pops open. Like back in the old days, huh!?

There are dual alarms, so you can set different alarms for weekdays and weekends. But even better than that, you can wake up to your favorite CD in the morning. While this feature is great, it may cause your favorite songs to become less desirable.

I mean, who likes the sound of their alarm, right!?

You can also access AM & FM radio. If that isn't enough, you can als connect your phone via Bluetooth, so you can stream music.

It's like retro radio with a modern touch, right!?

Unfortunately, the modern touch hasn't made it easy to use. When it first arrives, you may have difficulty setting it up. That's why I recommend going through the instruction manual beforehand.

  • Old school retro vibe
  • Pop open hood for CDs
  • Dual alarms for weekdays and weekends
  • Use your CDs as an alarm
  • Built-in AM & FM radio

  • Difficult to set up
  • It doesn't suit modern homes

Jensen JCR-310 AM/FM Stereo

Best Feature: Compact Design

The Jensen JCR-310 Stereo looks similar to the Crosley Stereo; however, it's a little bit more modern. Rather than giving off a 1950s vibe, it's more 2010. In all honesty, I'd prefer it a little more modern-looking; however, performance is the main thing, right!?

There is a strip located across the front, displaying the time in green letters. That means if you wake up during the night, you can see the time. My only complaint is you can't change the dimness, which could keep you awake at night.

The clock itself is second to none. You'll be able to set dual alarms and wake up to your favorite CDs, similar to the Crosley Stereo. Want my advice!? Wake up to a CD with nature sounds. It's going to help with starting the day.

When it comes to the CD player, it's good enough but doesn't have the same sound quality as the Crosley CR612B. There have also been a few complaints of CDs skipping from time to time.

  • Large letters display the time
  • Dual alarms feature
  • Wake up to the radio, CDs, or a buzzer sound
  • Instruction manual included
  • Easy to use

  • Average sound quality
  • Can't dim the display screen

Dpnao YW-010 CD Player Clock

Best Feature: Remote Control

The first thing that stood out to me about the Dpnao CD Player Clock is the modern design. You see, retro alarm clocks may suit some people; however, many others prefer modern alternatives to match their home's decor.

You'll also receive a remote control with your purchase. This can be used to set multiple alarms, change the volume, and even dim the display screen. You can expect it to work up to about 15 feet, which is plenty.

Batteries for the remote control are also included, which is nice to know.

The display screen has large red numbers, helping highlight the time for people with poor vision.

There are also backup batteries that can be installed. They spring to life during a power outage. You can sleep well knowing your alarm will sound no matter what! Unfortunately, the backup batteries aren't included with the purchase but are easy to find in most stores.

While the sound quality isn't the best in the business, it's still pretty damn good. You can listen to your favorite CDs while falling asleep.

  • Sleek black design to match a modern decor
  • Comes with a remote control
  • Dual alarms
  • Ability to dim the display screen at night
  • Backup battery option in case of a power outage

  • Sound quality could be better
  • Backup batteries aren't included

Keni CD Player Boombox

Best Feature: Headphone Alarm Option

Another alarm clock that doubles up as a CD player is the Keni Boombox; however, this one is a little different. It lets you connect devices using Bluetooth. You can use this feature to connect wireless sleep headphones.

When it's time to wake up, the alarm sounds through your headphones. This can be great for heavy sleepers and people who don't want to disturb their partner when getting up for work.

You can also use the sleep timer to fall asleep to sounds or music, which is great for people who need to relax before they can hit the sack.

But how about the sound quality!?

Whether you're using the built-in radio or playing your favorite CD, you'll experience crystal clear audio that puts other speakers to shame.

There is also a charging pad, letting you charge your phone without the need for cables. Welcome to the future!

In terms of downsides, I found it's a little difficult to set up. What's more, the instruction manual can be hard to understand at times.

  • Connect Bluetooth sleep headphones
  • Amazing sound quality
  • Built-in radio
  • Wireless charging pad for your phones
  • Sleep timers and reliable dual alarms

  • Difficult to set up
  • The instruction manual is difficult to understand

Jensen Turquoise Modern Home CD Stereo

Best Feature: 60 Minute Sleep Timer

Check Price on Amazon

If you like the color turquoise, this may be the CD alarm clock for you. It's equipped with a sleep timer and a 9-minute snooze option, allowing you to get some additional shut-eye on the weekends.

As well as multiple alarms, there's also a built-in sleep timer, so you can fall asleep to your favorite music. You can set the timer for a maximum of 60 minutes before it automatically shuts off.

You'll find a USB charging port in the left-hand corner to charge your phone. Unfortunately, there isn't a wireless charging pad like the Keni Boombox. You can't have everything, though, right!?

If you find yourself in a power outage, there's no need to worry. Jensen has designed this alarm clock with a battery backup unit, so you can always wake up on time. This feature only keeps your alarms active but won't let you use the clock's other features.

For downsides, I found the instruction manual is poorly written, making it difficult to set up.

  • Has a sleep timer that lasts for 60 minutes
  • 9-minute snooze button
  • USB charging port for your phone
  • Multiple alarms
  • Backup batteries in case of a power outage

  • Poorly written instruction manual
  • Backup batteries not included

Choosing the Best CD Alarm Clock - Buyers Guide

Modern vs. retro

You need to remember, CD players are few and far between nowadays. For that reason, some may have a more 'old school' design. However, this may not match the decor of your home.

Although, you may be on the other side of the fence. Maybe your home has a vintage look!? Regardless of your preference, it's important to choose something that fits well in your house.

You don't want your CD alarm clock looking out of place, right!?

Dual alarms

Although the design may be vintage, many CD alarm clocks boast modern features. One of these is the ability to set dual alarms. If you didn't already know, dual alarms let you set two separate alarms for weekdays and weekends.

This allows you to wake up at different times when you're not working. Because who wants to wake up at 6 AM on a Sunday!?

Alarm options

Unless you've skipped half of this article, then you probably noticed that some clocks let you set different alarms. For example, some clocks let you wake up to the radio, whereas others just have a buzzer noise.

While multiple alarm options aren't essential, I like ones that let you wake up to your own CDs. That way, you can use a CD with nature sounds, helping you start the day more peacefully.

Sound quality

Depending on whether you're more interested in the alarm clock or CD player, the sound quality may play an important role in your purchase. Personally, I'm willing to sacrifice a little sound quality for a reliable alarm.

However, that's not to say you can't have the best of both worlds. The Keni Boombox has an amazing alarm and great sound quality.

Final Verdict

Having a CD alarm clock in your home is essential if you want to have a reliable alarm, listen to music, and save money. There's no point buying these items separately when you can get them together, right!?

To recap, my top pick is the Crosley CR612B-WH. It's reliable, old school, and even has a built-in radio.
